Independent claims are included for: (1) a cosmetic composition comprising one or more direct dyes in a suitable medium for coloring; (2) a process for treatment of keratin fibers, preferably human keratin fibers, comprising: either applying the composition on dry or wet fibers, for a sufficient time to obtain the dye, and after a rinsing and an optional shampooing, drying the resulting fibers; or applying the composition on the dry or wet fibers, without final rinsing; and (3) a device with several compartments or coloring kit, comprising a first compartment containing the composition and a second compartment containing a composition comprising an oxidizing agent. #CMT#[Image]#/CMT# #CMT#USE : #/CMT# (I) is useful as coloring agent and/or agent for optical lightening of keratin fibers, preferably human hair. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# (I) is stable after several washings. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Composition: The composition further comprises: one or more non-ionic, cationic and anionic additional direct dyes, different from (I); an oxidation dye precursor comprising oxidation bases and couplers; a cosmetic adjuvant; one or more polymer thickeners; one or more surfactants; and an oxidizing agent. Preferred Components: The direct dye is present in the composition at 0.001-20 wt.%, preferably 0.05-10 wt.%. The medium for coloring is constituted by water or by a mixture of water and an organic solvent. The additional direct dye is benzenic, neutral, acidic or cationic nitrated dyes, neutral acidic or cationic azo direct dyes, quinonic direct dyes, preferably neutral, acidic or cationic anthraquinone direct dyes, azine direct dyes, triarylmethane direct dyes, indoaminic direct dyes, and direct natural dyes. The additional direct dyes are present in the composition at 0.01-20 wt.%, preferably 0.05-10 wt.%. The oxidation bases are paraphenylenediamines, bis-phenylalkylenediamines, paraaminophenols, orthoaminophenols, and heterocyclic bases and their addition salt. The oxidation bases are present in the composition at 0.005-15 wt.%, preferably 0.01-10 wt.%. The coupler comprises metaphenylenediamines, meta-aminophenols, metadiphenols, naphthalene couplers, and heterocyclic couplers and their addition salts, preferably 1,3-dihydroxy benzene, 1,3-dihydroxy-2-methyl benzene, 4-chloro-1,3-dihydroxy benzene, 2,4-diamino-1-(beta -hydroxyethyloxy) benzene, 2-amino-4-(beta -hydroxyethylamino) 1-methoxybenzene, 1,3-diamino benzene, 1,3-bis-(2.4-diaminophenoxy)propane, 3-ureido aniline, 3-ureido 1-dimethylamino benzene, sesamol, 1-beta -hydroxyethylamino-3,4-methylendioxybenzene, alpha -naphthol, 2-methyl-1-naphthol, 6-hydroxy indole, 4-hydroxy indole, 4-hydroxy N-methyl indole, 2-amino-3-hydroxy pyridine, 6-hydroxy benzomorpholine, 3,5-diamino-2,6-dimethoxypyridine, 1-N-(beta -hydroxyethyl)amino-3,4-methylene dioxybenzene, 2,6-bis-(beta -hydroxyethylamino)toluene and their addition salts. The couplers are present in the composition at 0.001-15 wt.%, preferably 0.05-10 wt.%. The cosmetic adjuvant is surfactants, polymers, ceramides and pseudo-ceramides, vitamins and pro-vitamins, sunscreens, solid compound comprising pigments, pearlescent agents or opacifiers, sequestering agents, plasticizers, solubilizing agents, acidifying agents, alkalizing agents, neutralizing agents, minerals and organic thickeners, anti-oxidants, hydroxyacids, solvents, penetration agents, buffers, dispersing agents, conditioning agents and preservatives.
