As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, a trimming is made by inserting a first length of yarn 32 within the groove provided by channel 18 in a rectangular panel having channels 18 and 19 in its longitudinal edges, winding transversely about the panel a second length of yarn, removing the ends of the first length of yarn from the channel 18 and looping the yarn about the turns of the second length of yarn to form loop 35 and draw strings 36 pulling the draw strings to tighten the loop and severing the turns of the second length of yarn in the portion extending over the channel 19 to make a pompon, or, alternatively, sliding the turns longitudinally along the panel towards one of the transverse edges thereof to form a flat rosette. The grooved panel may be made integrally by extruding a thermoplastic such as polypropylene or polyethylene through a die. In an alternative method, a length of yarn is folded on itself to provide a piece of double thickness and is inserted within channel 18. After the second length of yarn is wound to provide turns, the folded first length of yarn is removed from the channel and the free ends passed through the loop of the folded portion and pulled to tie the turns. |
