HYBRID PHOTOVOLTAIC CELLS AND RELATED METHODS

The present invention relates to a photovoltaic cell comprising of first and second electrodes and a plurality of aligned semiconducting nanorods dis posed between the electrodes, each nanorod being electrically connected to t he first electrode and electrically insulated from the second electrode. A p lurality of photoresponsive nanocrystals surround and are bound to the nanor ods. A semiconductor polymer surrounds the nanorods and is bound to the nano crystals and to at least the second electrode. The nanocrystals act as heter oj unctions channeling a first charge carrier into the nanorods and a second charge carrier into the polymer.
