PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a proper image without an error of exposure and exposure unevenness with simple configuration. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus has an image pickup device 104 which accumulates received light as an electric charge, electronic front curtain means 107, 108 for performing reset scanning for starting accumulation of electric charges of the image pickup device, and mechanical rear curtain means 105, 106 for shielding an image pickup surface of the image pickup device in order to terminate the accumulation of electric charges. The imaging apparatus also has a state discrimination means 501 for discriminating a state of the imaging apparatus and a scanning pattern setting means 502 for setting scanning patterns of the electronic front curtain means by state information from the state discrimination means.
