PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress giving a player sense of incongruity on difference between actual performance and practice performance, and to improve stability of attitude of a musical instrument. SOLUTION: The mute 1 for woodwind instruments, having a case 3 which can be opened to right and left, incorporating a tone hole of the musical instrument 2, is equipped with hand inserting apertures thorough which the player inserts right hand and left hand from outside of the case 3, operates keys of the musical instrument, and generates sound by using a reed 23. The case 3 which is prolonged so as to cover the musical instrument 2, includes a reed slot 13 for taking out the reed 23 to one side of a long direction of the case 3, and one hand inserting aperture and the other are divided on right and left, and arranged in the long direction of the case 3.
