PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image reader capable of obtaining a radiation image whose noise level is uniform in all the area of an image. SOLUTION: The radiation image reader 1 which reads image information by scanning a radiation image conversion plate P having a stimulable phosphor layer on which the radiation image is recorded with exciting light is equipped with a plurality of photodiodes 9a to 9d arranged in the scanning direction of the exciting light and dividing and condensing stimulated light, a plurality of amplifier circuits 20a to 20d respectively provided just behind the photodiodes 9a to 9d and respectively amplifying output currents from the photodiodes 9a to 9d, and a control means 22 obtaining the read information of image information by switching the on/off of the plurality of photodiodes 9a to 9d so that the same number of photodiodes may be always in an on-state, and adding amplification signals output from the amplifier circuits corresponding to the same number of photodiodes in the on-state.
