PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image fixing unit which can detect the open and close of jam processing cover in a simple configuration without using an exclusive sensor and can separate the recording material from the fixing roller without fail to eject it in a stabilized manner. SOLUTION: This image fixing unit 8 heats and presses the toner image transferred on a recording material to fix it on the recording material between the turning fixing roller 20 and the pressure roller 21 under press contact state, separates the recording material having a fixed toner pattern by using a separation nail 26, and has a jam processing cover 27 to open or close at the ejecting side of the recording material. The jam processing cover 27 can open or close relative to the main part 8A leaving the separation nail 26 in the main part. Further, an actuator 37 is provided on the jam processing cover 27 to detect the passing state of the recording material and to move together as the jam processing cover 27 opens or closes.
