PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an isonitrile compound by using an alcohol as a raw material without using a metal reagent by using one reactor. SOLUTION: The method for producing the isonitrile includes (A) a step for neutralizing a reaction solution obtained by reacting the alcohol with trimethylsilyl cyanide in the presence of a Broensted acid and containing an N-substituted formamide by adding a first tertiary amine to afford a stirrable reaction mixture, and (B) a step for adding a second tertiary amine and a sulfonic acid halide to the reaction mixture obtained at the foregoing step to provide the isonitrile.
