PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently compress data sent to and received from a storage system. SOLUTION: A storage system comprising a plurality of devices including a storage device has a compression control device for controlling the compression of data sent to and received from the storage system. Based on configuration information for the configuration of the storage system, the compression control device determines a compression control method for at least one of the devices configuring the storage system, and controls at least one of the plurality of devices so that the at least one of the devices compresses data according to the compression control method determined.
