PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of performing calibration using a plurality of kinds of samples (gradations) and sampling points. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus according to the present invention is an image processing apparatus 100 which optically reads a document, and includes a document read unit 101 which generates document data by optically reading the document, a sampling unit 105 which generates sampling data as image values by sampling images at one or more sampling positions on a gradation pattern included in the document data, an updating unit 109 which changes the sampling position where the image is sampled by the sampling unit 105, a storage unit 107 which saves the sampling data generated by the sampling unit 105, and a calibration unit 108 which performs color calibration according to the sampling data saved in the storage unit 107.
