The invention refers to novel compounds (e.g., peptides) that are useful in the treatment of pain. The compounds are useful in treating both chronic and acute pain. The peptides can act as analgesics and/or anti-nociceptive a gents. According to an embodiment, the invention refers to an isolated pepti de that comprises an amino acid sequence that is at least 70% identical to t he 14 amino acid sequence: pGlu-Phe-Ser-Pro-Glu-Asn-Ala-Gln-Gly-Glu-Ser-Gln- Pro-Ala (SEQ ID NO:2).
