PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a software update system or the like certainly performing update of software on designated time, and securing convenience of a user. SOLUTION: In this software update system, a composition machine 41 has: a storage part 52 storing the software related to image formation; a reception part 54 receiving update start time and an update module to the software stored in the storage part 52 from a server device connected via an intranet 3; a control part 50 calculating an update residual time to the update start time received in the reception part 54; an operation part 58 receiving a request job related to the image formation from the user; the control part 50 predicting an execution prediction time necessary for execution of the request job received in the operation part 58; and a display part 57 displaying the effect that the request job received in the operation part 58 cannot be executed when the predicted execution prediction time is larger than the update residual time.
