PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a toner consumption by preventing a circuit scale from being enlarged and ensuring the quality of image. SOLUTION: For matrix data JM äfigure 6 (a)} of former image data, although a mask processing is performed one by one for every unit pixels-number domain P using a mask pattern MP of the size of the unit pixels-number domain P of 4 pixels×4 pixels shown in figure 6(b), further, using a mask processing selection means MS consisting of four domains of the size of the mask pattern MP having 2×2 lines and trains, either masking the whole or masking with the mask pattern MP äfigure 6 (c)} for every unit pixels-number domain P of the matrix data JM is selected. Namely, in the mask domain of "1" of the mask processing selection means MS, the whole of the unit pixels-number domain P is masked. In the mask pattern selection domain of "0", the unit pixels-number domain P is masked with the mask pattern MP. Thereby, masked image data shown in figure 6 (d) is obtained.
