PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrogen pickup inhibiting method in ladle refining using an electrode heating device capable of making a low N steel, and a ladle. SOLUTION: In the nitrogen pickup inhibiting method in the ladle refining using the electrode heating device which sucks and discharges dust-containing gases generated in the ladle, the sucking amount of the dust-containing gases generated in the ladle is adjusted with the rotation number of a suction fan and the opening of an airflow adjusting damper so that the dust concentration leaked to the surrounding from the outlet of the ladle is within a preliminarily prescribed range. The ladle 9 is provided with a dust collector for collecting dust-containing gases generated in the ladle, a water-cooled rid 7 attached with the dust collector for collecting dust-containing gases generated in the ladle, and the electrode heating device. The dust-collector for collecting dust-containing gases generated in the ladle is provided with the suction fan, the airflow adjusting damper, and a duct 4 attached to the opening part of the water-cooled rid and for discharging collected dust-containing gases generated in the ladle to the atmospheric air. Further, a leaked dust concentration monitor 45 for detecting dust concentration leaked from clearance 38 between the outlet of the ladle and the water-cooled rid is arranged in the vicinity of the outlet of the ladle.
