PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a main menu for operating various functions in a standby picture on a portable terminal device such that a received broadcast can be viewed in the standby picture in a standby mode. SOLUTION: In the standby mode, an input/output control unit 14 displays the picture of a received television program on a display unit 15. When a user operates the key of a key operation unit 21 while the television program is displayed in the standby picture, a main menu picture for operating various functions by the user is superimposed on the standby picture.
