PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure magnetic head characteristics of a HDD of an iron shroud. SOLUTION: The device for measuring magnetic head characteristics measures the output of a magnetoresistance element disposed in the inside covered with an iron HDD shroud 11, and is provided with a coil 21 for applying a magnetic field to the position of a magnetoresistance element in the shroud 11, and a PC 23 for detecting the magnetic field intensity of the applied magnetic field in a predetermined position P by using a probe 20. The PC 23 applies a magnetic field set in a predetermined sine wave to the position of the magnetoresistance element, compares the amplitude of the detected magnetic field intensity, hysterisis and the predetermined sine wave with one another, sets the amplitude and the hysterisis of a coil output waveform so that a difference between the amplitude and the hysterisis which have been compared is 1% or lower, and measures the output of the magnetoresistance element by using the set coil output waveform.
