PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To format each track of a storage disk device in a short time. SOLUTION: This disk controller 1 has a cache memory 14 for storing one part of data, a control table 20 for indicating whether a track of the storage disk device 2 is initialized to a prescribed track format or not, and control units 10, 12 for preparing a track format pattern with respect to an input/output request from a host 3, while referring to the control table 20. A track control table is provided in the controller, a flag is provided to indicate a factory deliver time format, the factory deliver time format flag of the control table is set to "1" in a factory format time, and only the control table is transferred to a disk.
