In one embodiment an ink pen for an inkjet printer includes: an ink filter chamber (30, 62A, or 62B); a pressure regulator chamber (36, 76A, or 76B) downstream from the ink filter chamber (30, 62A, or 62B) along a path of ink flow through the pen; a pressure regulator (38, 86A, or 86B) in the pressure regulator chamber (36, 76A, or 76B); a filter (34, 64A, or 64B) in the ink filter chamber (30, 62A, or 62B); an inlet (32, 60A, or 60B) to the ink filter chamber (30, 62A, or 62B) upstream from the filter (34, 64A, or 64B) along the ink flow path; and an outlet (74A or 74B) from the ink filter chamber (30, 62A, or 62B) to the pressure regulator chamber (36, 76A, or 76B) downstream from the filter (34, 64A, or 64B) along the ink flow path such that ink flowing from the inlet (32, 60A, or 60B) to the outlet (74A or 74B) passes through the filter (34, 64A, or 64B).
