<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform optimum calibration corresponding to the light source of an observation environment for observing images without complicated procedures. <P>SOLUTION: The recording system is provided with the recorder, a spectral characteristic measuring apparatus and the host device for performing the calibration of the recorder. Also, spectral characteristic data for the plurality of light sources are stored, control is executed so as to record a sample image by the recorder, and the control is executed so as to measure the spectral characteristic of the sample image by the spectral characteristic measuring apparatus. Also, the light source of the observation environment for observing the image recorded by the recorder is set.
