PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of causing a danger in maintenance work, due to having the possibility of erroneously touching a handrail of a moving escalator, since a maintenance engineer is required to make a detecting part of a distance measuring device abut on the handrail of the moving escalator, when measuring an escalator brake slip distance. SOLUTION: A slip distance measuring device 11 is fixedly installed on an upper surface of a footstep 7 of the escalator. A contact detecting part 14 of a brake braking guiding device 13 is also fixed to a skirt guard 12 of the escalator, and another one end of a brake braking guiding device 10 is connected to a control board 9 via a cable 15. When the slip distance measuring device 11 contacts with the contact detecting part 14 of the brake braking guiding device 13, an electromagnetic brake 10 connected to the control board 9 brakes and stops the escalator.
