The method involves compressing a pressed material mat (7) around 5 percentages to 15 percentages after contact with an upper steel strip (2) in a compression path longer than half-width of the mat. The mat is aerated across a narrow surface. The mat is compressed around 75 percentages to 95 percentages in a steep and short compression path. Excessive air contained in the mat is pressed towards a production direction (22) on the former path. The mat is compressed and hardened in a main pressing distance until the mat runs down from a continuously operating press (1) to its final dimension.
