Provided is a color filter having a resin black matrix and a color pattern on a substrate. The film thickness of the resin black matrix is 1.5µm or less. The color pattern is provided with a pattern end section having a rectangular or taper cross-section on the resin black matrix. A ratio [L/t], i.e., a ratio of the taper length (L) to the film thickness (t) of the cross-section of the pattern end section, is 1.0 or less. Peeling of the color pattern is suppressed, and when the color filter is used for a display device, generation of display defects due to light leakage and foreign materials is suppressed.
