PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting an ink residual amount which can precisely detect the residual amount of ink stored in an ink container with an inexpensive constitution, and to provide a method for detecting the ink residual amount, a program for detecting the ink residual amount, and an image recorder. SOLUTION: An ink interface detecting part 2 has at least a transmitting receiving part 4 which transmits ultrasonic waves to an ink liquid 13 in the ink container 12 and receives reflected waves of the ultrasonic waves that arrive after reflected at an interface of the ink liquid 13. A control part 8 determines the residual amount of the ink liquid 13 on the basis of the reception result of the reflected waves received at the transmitting receiving part 4 when the ultrasonic waves transmitted from the transmitting receiving part 4 are scanned in two directions on the interface of the ink liquid 13 on the basis of an ink residual amount determining part 9.
