Manufacturing guitar strings

A guitar string (13) has an enlarged end (10) formed on it by threading an end (21) of the string element (13) into an enlarged end (10) formed of metal. The enlarged end is forced radially-inwardly all around the string element (13) end so as to very tightly grip it. Firstly, the string element (10) end is threaded into a hole (16) in a metal blank (15) and then the blank (15) and string element (13) are passed through an extrusion die (38) to make the blank (15) longer and smaller in diameter, to cause such blank to grip the end (21) of the string (13) with great force.
