PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commercially advantageous process for producing 4,5,6-trichloropyrimidines. SOLUTION: The process for commercially advantageously producing 4,5,6-trichloropyrimidines comprises reacting a 4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine represented by formula (1) (wherein R is hydrogen, a halogen, a substitutable alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, a substitutable aryl group, a substitutable heteroaryl group or a cyano group) with sulfuryl chloride and then reacting the resultant mixture or its treated product with a chlorinating agent in the presence of an organic base.
