The method involves arranging printing plates in cartridge provided during exchange of printing plate as printing plate storage. Each printing plate is assigned to coding before an illumination or during illumination or in connection to the illumination. The illumination and coding of printing plate is transported into cartridge area, where each cartridge of the receiver provides multiple printing plates and each cartridge of printing plates is transported into the area.
