The method involves activating an electrical traction machine (12) when a vehicle is in stop state to produce torque to a sleeve according to given set point applying maintenance force. An actuator is activated to produce extraction effort in a direction opposite to the force according to another given set point. The failure of an anti-release system is indicated by disengaging a speed ratio. The machine is placed between a heat engine (1) and automatically-controlled gearbox (9) and drives a drive wheel (10). The sleeve is maintained in a position of speed ratio engaged by the system.
