<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure control method for maintaining the brightness of an output image constant even when focal luminance suddenly changes due to high-speed zooming or a change in object luminance, and an imaging apparatus which attains the exposure control method. <P>SOLUTION: It is determined whether zooming is performed in a step S15, and it is then determined whether an F value changes in a step S100. When the F value changes, advance is made to a step S105 to estimate a change amount in focus luminance and to change shutter speeds on the basis of the estimated change amount, changing a frame rate so as to change brightness uniformly in a step S110, which gradually changes the shutter speed each time an electronic shutter is released on the basis of the change amount of the F value per frame.
