<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image data from flowing out by disabling communication with an external device if a communication error occurs. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus authenticates a connection destination when communicating with the external device. After completing the authentication, the image processing apparatus transmits and receives image data to and from the external device. When the authentication ends in failure or if a communication error occurs during communication, the image processing apparatus discontinues the communication and generates log information regarding the communication error. Then when the safety of communication is definitely proved, the image processing apparatus permits communication.
