PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably generate writing discharge, even in a further high-definition plasma display panel having a larger screen. SOLUTION: A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel and a sustain pulse generating circuit, wherein a first ramped waveform voltage that rises gently is generated in the initializing period of at least one sub field in one field period, and a second ramped waveform voltage having a steeper gradient than in the first ramped waveform voltage and immediately falling after the rising waveform voltage reaches a predetermined potential is generated in the end of the sustain period. The sustain pulse generating circuit generates, while switching at least two kinds of sustain pulses in the sustain period, which are a sustain pulse as a reference and a sustain pulse having a longer falling period than the reference sustain pulse, and generates a sustain pulse having an increased falling period, immediately prior to the second ramped waveform voltage.
