<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-molecular weight PAS (polyarylene sulfide) by carrying out a reaction in a pure polymerization system. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the PAS comprises carrying out a dehydration step of thermally dehydrating a polar organic amide solvent and an alkali metal sulfide and regulating the moisture content and then conducting a polymerization step of reacting the alkali metal sulfide with a dihalo-aromatic compound in the organic amide solvent in at least following two stages: a step (1) carrying out the reaction at 180-250°C temperature and producing a PAS prepolymer at ≥50% polymerization rate of the dihalo-aromatic compound and, after producing the PAS prepolymer in the step (1), a step (2) of injecting steam in an amount of 1.5-6 mol based on 1 mol of the charged alkali metal sulfide into the polymerization system, subsequently conducting the reaction at 245-290°C temperature and producing the PAS. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
