PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide member capable of improving wear resistance and providing a long term maintenance free property and a scroll type motor-driven compressor using it even in the case of using an alternative coolant free from chlorine or a natural coolant. SOLUTION: In this invention, an oxide film layer 14 is formed on a surface of the slide member 8 formed by sintered iron, an oxide layer 14A is formed by forming a middle layer 15 on a surface of the oxide film layer 14 and a hard carbon film layer 16 is formed on the middle layer 15. By sequentially forming the oxide film layer 14, the oxide layer 14A, the middle layer 15 and the hard carbon film layer 16 on the slide member 8, the hard carbon film layer 16 having excellent wear resistance and low friction property can be tightly fit to the surface of the slide member 8 finally and it is possible to provide the long term maintenance free property.
