A digital video recorder (DVR) is used to record TV shows by downloading from the Internet or through a TV tuner. A list of recorded shows is maintained for the user's reference. Commercials selected according to likely interest to the viewer are also downloaded or recorded automatically and appear in the list of available viewing. When browsing their library of recordings, viewers are thereby exposed to a title or thumbnail of a commercial that is likely to be of interest to them, and can choose whether or not to watch it.
