PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid for traction drive for automobiles which exhibits a great traction coefficient at high temperatures as well as has a small viscosity at low temperatures thereby being improved in low temperature fluidity. SOLUTION: The fluid for traction drive contains a bicycle[2.2.1]heptane derivative having 14 to 17 carbon atoms in total and a viscosity index of 0 or greater, and represented by general formula (1) or (2), wherein R<SP>1</SP>represents a 1-4C alkyl group, R<SP>2</SP>represents a 7-10C branched alkyl group having at least one quaternary carbon or a 7-10C alkyl group having a cyclopentane ring, and a, b, and c each represent an integer of 0 to 2.
