PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device in which lighting state is not switched over against the intention of an installer even when an instantaneous power failure corresponding to a temporary switch off of a power supply switch occurs. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device 100 is provided with a power supply temporary-stop period detection part 400 which detects whether or not the power supply temporary-stop period in which supply of AC power from an AC power supply 1 is temporarily stopped by a temporary switching off of the power supply switch 20 is within an established period set beforehand, and a microcomputer which tentatively establishes the illumination command value set until the detection time to the other illumination command value when the power supply temporary-stop period is detected to be within the established period by the power supply temporary-stop period detection part 400, and when the power supply temporary-stop period is detected for any number of times of one of more established beforehand to be within the established period by the detection part 400 continuously within a prescribed period after the detection, finally fixes as a new setting value the temporary established other illumination command value.
