A holographically enhanced photovoltaic solar module (10, 10', 10", 10'") comprises: a first substrate having an outer major surface and an inner major surface, substantially parallel to each other, the first substrate being optically transparent and including a transmission grating (12) on the inner major surface of the optically transparent substrate; a second substrate having an outer major surface and an inner major surface, substantially parallel to each other, the second substrate including a reflection grating (14) on the inner major surface of the second substrate; and at least one solar cell (18) interposed between the transmission grating and the reflection grating and oriented perpendicular thereto.
