A device and a method for discriminating forged fingerprints are provided to discriminate bio-fingerprints from forged fingerprints made of paper, a film and so on. A fingerprint recognition device(200) includes a prism(210), an inner light source(231) which irradiates fingerprint light toward the prism, an optical lens(233) which obtains image information of a fingerprint, an image sensor(235), a controller(250) and a living body discrimination light source(270). In the fingerprint recognition device, the light irradiated from the inner light source is irradiated onto a fingerprint surface(210a) at a right angle or an angle lower than a critical angle for total reflection. The light irradiated from the inner light source is formed into a fingerprint image by passing along fingerprint lines or the gullies between the lines. The image sensor obtains the fingerprints contacting onto the fingerprint surface by outputting electrical digital fingerprint signal corresponding to the irradiating fingerprint image. As the area of the image obtained in the image sensor by using the living body discrimination light source is different according to the kinds of fingerprint contacting onto the fingerprint surface, the forged fingerprint discrimination unit(251) included in the controller discriminates whether or not the fingerprint contacting onto the fingerprint surface based on the area of the obtained image. |
