COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS USING HYPER TEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL

A communication method and apparatus using HTTP are provided to make it possible to make real time interactive communication between a client and a server without modifying existing HTTP. A communication method using HTTP includes the following several steps. When a client(200) transmits a streaming request to a server(210), first of all the client makes a streaming connection to the server. The client sets up a control connection independent of the streaming connection. The server transmits a query request for a state of the client or notifies the client of variations on streaming data by using a new chunk of chunked encoding in HTTP 1.1. The client transmits a new request or a response to a server's request to the server on the control connection while HTTP streaming is being performed on the streaming connection between the client and the server. The server starts a new check whenever it transmits a notification message or a query message to the client as soon as the currently processed chunk is finished and it transmits a response message to a control request of the client as well as when a chunk for transmitting real streaming data is formed. The server performs time stamping by using chunk extension for each chunk when the server transmits each chunk.
