A pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of moss is provided to improve itch of atopic dermatitis and erythema, regenerate the epidermis, and show antibacterial action and skin mitigating effect because of having immunosuppressive effect and NO generation inhibiting capability, and controlling cytokine secretion, thereby improving or treating effectively atopic symptoms. A pharmaceutical composition for improving or treating skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis, acne, general dermatitis, and athlete's foot comprises an extract of moss for preventing NO from being generated, which is prepared by extracting the moss with hot water at a temperature of 95-100 deg.C or by extracting the moss with alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, and butanol or an aqueous solution of the alcohol.
