<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging and recording apparatus capable of recording image data without drastically deteriorating image quality even when an image data amount per unit time greatly changes due to a change in a frame rate. <P>SOLUTION: A frame rate setting part 7 sets a frame rate for a period during imaging. An image data compressing part 11 compresses image data by using intraframe compression for compressing the image data on the basis of information in one frame and interframe prediction for compressing the image data on the basis of information among a plurality of frames.
