<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stack multiple elements when a plurality of elements are stacked, to reduce the number of components required for sealing by preventing excessive pressure on the elements, and to prevent efficiency degradation due to deformation of an interconnector in operating the element. <P>SOLUTION: An electrochemical element 7 is provided with a first electrode 7c contacting a first gas, a solid polymer membrane 7b, and a second electrode 7a contacting a second gas. The electrochemical element 7 is held by a metallic support member 1, and a first gas passage is formed between the electrochemical element 7 and it. On the side of the electrochemical element 7 opposite to the support member 1, a metallic interconnector 11 with a vent hole formed thereon is installed.
