PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding method and a welding apparatus, by which method and apparatus, the accurate advance of an electrode can be started based on the welding position of a projection bolt on a steel plate component and the supply condition of the projection bolt to the electrode. SOLUTION: The bolt 10 held by a supply rod 17 is inserted into the receiving hole 20 of the electrode 6. Then, the insertion of the bolt into the receiving hole 20 is completed by carrying out the air jetting and the advance of a pushing member 82 from a holding head 18. Next, the supply rod 17 is retracted, and then the bolt is welded to the steel plate component 30 by advancing the electrode 6 and performing electric resistance welding. In this case, the electrode 6 is advanced to the steel plate component 30 by the signal output by the insertion of the bolt 10 and the signal output by the positioning of the welding portion of the steel plate component 30.
