<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handle unit which enhances operation reliability by preventing the reliability of a switching operation from being decreased by split arrangement in different bases, because a locking/unlocking operation switch is sub-assembled to an escutcheon. <P>SOLUTION: This handle unit comprises a handle unit body 4 which is constituted by rotatably connecting an operating handle 2 to a handle base 1 and which is fixed to a door 3 for an automobile via the handle base 1, and the escutcheon 7 which is mounted on the door 3 after the fixation of the handle unit body 4 to the door 3 in such a manner that a handle portion 6 of the operating handle 2 is enclosed with a frame portion 5. The locking/unlocking operation switch 10, which makes the door 3 locking/unlocking-operated by performing the operation of pushing a switch cap 9 exposed from a button insertion hole 8 opened in the frame portion 5, is fixed to the escutcheon 7.
