PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which does not damage readability of a printed part of a manuscript even if conducting a re-read processing of an image of an error manuscript whose printing process has been conducted already and increases efficiency of a reading operation of the image. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus arranges an image reading portion to read the image of the manuscript and a printing portion to print characters or the like on the manuscript in a carrier path of the manuscript. When a carrier error of the manuscript is detected (Yes of Step S303), the error manuscript is re-carried and the re-read processing of the image of the manuscript is conducted (Step S311 and Step S312). At this time, the printing process to the manuscript is changed (Step S313) according to progress informations (Step S308 and Step S309) of the print processing to the manuscript prior to the re-read processing.
