PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorption promoter containing an ether type lipid having an ether bond represented by an Archaea-derived ether type lipid promoting absorption of functional substances into living body cells. SOLUTION: The absorption promoter promotes the absorption a functional substance into the living body cells and contains an ether type lipid, and the ether type lipid is a specific ether type lipid represented by formula (II) (wherein R1and R2are saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbons which may contain a branched chain and R1and R2may be the same or different and Z is a polar group).
