PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing chemicals by continuous fermentation in which microorganisms and cultured cells are filtered by a separation membrane, a product is collected from a filtrate, and the microorganisms and the cultured cells are recycled to the culture liquid to improve the concentration of the microorganisms and the cells in the fermentation culture liquid, by maintaining the concentration to be high and high material productivity in the continuous fermentation method. SOLUTION: The method for producing the chemicals by the continuous fermentation, by filtering the fermentation culture liquid of the microorganisms or the cultured cells by the separation membrane, collecting the product from the filtrate, holding or returning the unfiltered liquid in or to the fermentation culture liquid, and adding a fermentation raw material to the fermentation culture liquid includes carrying out the filtering treatment, by using a porous separation membrane having≥1μm and≤5μm average pore diameter as the separation membrane.
