PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer latex for paper coating, which is capable of providing a coated paper excellent in dry pick strength, printing gloss, ink set and ink impression. SOLUTION: The copolymer latex for paper coating is obtained by carrying out emulsion polymerization of an aliphatic conjugated diene-based monomer with an ethylene-based unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer and other monomer which is copolymerizable therewith and in measurement of contact angle of a film prepared from the copolymer latex to soybean oil, contact angle after 1 sec is≥20 degree and the rate of change from contact angle after 1 sec to contact angle after 4 sec is <10%.
