The non-cutting separating method, especially for separating metal pipes or closed and open profiles, entails applying the action of a forming punch (9) or die, orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the profile, along a notch point which has been introduced beforehand in the preferably still flat, undeformed strip material, thereby creating a break. The notch point can be introduced on one side or on both sides of the preferably flat strip material.
