PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform Kandome (bar tack) sewing by only a required length by using a sewing machine performing buttonhole sewing, and realize the Kandome (bar tack) sewing by a fixed length. SOLUTION: The sewing machine 10 includes a Kandome (bar tack) sewing judgment means 3 which judges whether the kind of sewing is Kandome (bar tack) sewing, a buttonhole sewing judgment means 3 which judges whether the kind of sewing is buttonhole sewing, a Kandome (bar tack) length calculation means 3 which computes sewing length required for the Kandome (bar tack) sewing by adding a Kandome (bar tack) sewing correction value to the diameter of a button when it is the Kandome (bar tack) sewing, a buttonhole length calculation means 3 which computes the sewing length required for the buttonhole sewing by adding a buttonhole sewing correction value to the diameter of the button when it is the buttonhole sewing, and a control means 3 which controls the drive of a needle vertical motion mechanism, a feed mechanism, and a needle swing mechanisms so as to perform the Kandome (bar tack) sewing or buttonhole sewing of the computed sewing length.
