PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a data processing apparatus to read and write data from and to an external recording medium even if the external recording medium that communicates in a different communication packet size from a predetermined communication packet size is connected. SOLUTION: In an audio device 100, an application part 163 obtains the communication packet size of a USB memory 22 from a USB descriptor and obtains from a file system 162 a cluster size handled by the file system, and an application part 163 determines whether or not the communication packet size matches the cluster size in the USB memory 22. If it is determined that the communication packet size does not match a data unit handled by the file system 162, a process for making the communication packet size match the data unit size by decomposing or combining data for every data unit input is performed.
